After all the hard work for setting up the trail, it was finally officially opened on Monday the 20th of June.
That day it was also the first time me as a guide went with the first two guest and post the first postcard in the underwater postbox.

After that special ceremony we got settled in at the kiosk where our weekly duties includes assisting with handing out gears to guest as well as explaining to them the main purpose of the trail, which so far we have good feedbacks from all the guest who visits the trail or who is told about the trail.

Our main responsibility is to guide clients from the hotel who wants to snorkel the trail with our assistance. Therefore we also provide this service to the guest who is not fully confident with snorkeling but wants to have the experience. Small training is given in the pool to make them comfortable with the snorkeling gear and then if they still want to proceed that is when we head out and enjoy the trail.

The highlight of the trail so far is the Art block where an artificial land Tortoise is positioned next to it. Most of the guest likes to take pictures with it as it is an unusual newly introduced way of artwork in the Seychelles. Looking forward for further development and adventures of the trail!

Bonzour everyone, My name is Léopold and I’m the new intern in the Coral nurseries project at Le Méridien Fisherman’s Cove. Happy 20th Anniversary to MCSS and ... Coral growing tanks opening!

The 26th September was the celebration of MCSS' 20 years of work from whale sharks, sea turtles, beach erosion, marine mammals, wetlands and terrapins to coral reefs ! Crown-of-thorns removal mission!

A Crown-of-Thorns starfish (Acanthaster planci) The crown-of-thorns ( Acanthaster planci ), is a large, thorned starfish which lives along the shallow reefs of the tropical band of the globe. It has all the fundamental components of any other starfish - a central disk, perimeter by radiating arms - but unlike most, this starfish can have up to 23, regenerative arms (all of which can be replaced in the case of lost limbs) covered with long poisonous spines. Usually found ranging between 25 cm – 35 cm in its adult stage, some individuals can be as large as 80 cm. The crown-of-thorns is a carnivorous predator, feeding on live coral tissue by everting its stomach over their surfaces. As well as hard corals, they can also feed on soft corals, sponges and encrusting organisms. Their presence on a reef give slower growing coral communities (e.g. Favites ) an opportunity to flourish by preferring feeding on branching and plate fast growing corals (e.g. Acropora ) However, the large size o...
